Removal of Ovarian Cysts
Laparoscopic ovarian cyst removal is performed through tiny incisions in the lower abdomen. A tiny video camera is inserted into the abdominal cavity to view the ovary and cysts. Through another incision, thin surgical instruments are inserted to perform the delicate removal of the ovarian cysts. This is a much less invasive procedure than open surgery. The smaller incisions damage less tissue and reduce the risk of infection, allowing for faster healing after the cystectomy.
Removing ovarian cysts can stop painful symptoms or reduce the risk of cancer. Most laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy procedures can be performed outpatient, allowing the patient to go home the same day.
