When stress occurs in your life, it is normal to feel anxiety. A loved one having surgery or an important meeting at work can make you feel anxiety, but this is normally a short-lived experience. When you begin to feel anxiety linked to daily activities, you may have an anxiety disorder, which can become debilitating. At FEM Women’s Wellness, we offer anxiety treatment through our mental health therapists at our clinic in Reno, NV.
There are various types of anxiety disorders. Generalized anxiety disorder, or GAD, involves worrying excessively, often thinking the worst will happen in almost every situation. Other types of anxiety disorders include phobias of social situations or specific scenarios. Panic disorder is also a type of anxiety, resulting in debilitating attacks of mental and physical terror. Women are twice as likely as men to obtain some type of anxiety disorder.
Symptoms of Anxiety Disorder
Since there are different types of anxiety disorders, there are also many different symptoms. Each woman may experience anxiety differently, but there are signs that the anxiety you feel goes beyond the normal reaction to stress. Some of the symptoms to watch for include:
- Excessive worry about routine events
- Jumping to the worst-case scenario or conclusion in most situations
- Constant feeling of dread or fear
- Physical symptoms – dizziness, increased heart rate, hot flashes, shortness of breath, weakness or nausea
Anxiety disorders can overtake your life and make it difficult to function. Recognizing the signs and seeking anxiety treatment can give you control over your reaction to stress and improve your mental health.
Anxiety treatment at FEM Women’s Wellness is personalized to the patient. Our therapists work with patients to determine what triggers or past experiences may contribute to their disorder. Psychotherapy sessions may be combined with medication, depending on the type of disorder and the individual needs of the patient.
