The procedure is minimally invasive and can reveal many possible causes for pelvic pain, irregular periods, infertility and other common gynecologic concerns. What to Expect
There are different types of gynecologic sonograms or ultrasounds that can be performed. The procedure may be performed with a device outside the body (transabdominal) or inside the vagina (transvaginal), depending on what is being viewed. You may need to prepare for your imaging procedure by not emptying your bladder to help improve the imaging – our team will instruct you on what you need to do before your appointment.
Most sonograms or ultrasounds can be completed in less than a half hour. The person performing your procedure will not be able to give you results – your GYN specialist will need to interpret the imaging and discuss the results with you after your procedure or at a future appointment. You should be able to return to normal activities after your ultrasound.
