Endometriosis is one of the most common causes of pelvic pain and female reproductive issues. This disease occurs when uterine tissue grows outside of the uterus. These endometrium “implants” often grow on the fallopian tubes, ovaries, bladder or other structures inside the pelvic region. There is no cure for endometriosis, but management is possible with medication and surgical treatments like excision of endometriosis. FEM Women’s Wellness offers treatment for endometriosis, including endometriosis excision, at our clinic in Reno, NV.
Endometriosis is very common. It is estimated that one in ten women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the U.S. have this condition. Symptoms can include painful menstrual periods, as well as pain during sex, bowel movements and urination. The endometriotic implants react to hormonal changes, growing and swelling after ovulation like the endometrium inside the uterus. The changes in the implants can damage the fallopian tubes, ovaries and other pelvic organs where they are located.
Removing endometriotic implants is an effective treatment component. If left untreated, endometriosis can result in scarring and complications that can lead to chronic pelvic pain and infertility. Surgical excision of the endometriotic implants can offer relief, especially when followed by medical management, usually with hormone therapy.
Endometriosis Surgery
In most cases, excision of endometriosis can be performed with a minimally invasive surgery. Laparoscopic instruments can often be used to meticulously remove the small implants of uterine tissue. Endometriosis excision is considered the gold standard of endometriosis treatment and the best option to prevent further complications from the disease. The endometriotic tissue is completely removed while keeping the ovaries, tubes and uterus intact to allow for the chance of pregnancy in the future. The tissue is sent to a lab for testing to rule out cancer or other conditions.
Excision of endometriosis is the best treatment option to control pain and prevent further damage to the reproductive organs.
